T-Mobile Looking to Launch 4 g tablet in 2011

Pills quickly became some of the hottest electronics market with almost all manufacturers of hardware falling on the fun. Seeing as how they are so popular it would be ridiculous if any one of the major airlines began to opportunity. Many carriers said already has started down with popular devices such as iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab putting up impressive sales figures.

However, it seems that the T-Mobile is looking to be a step ahead of the game already establishing its plans for a Tablet PC 4 g. According to T-Mobile that they are focusing their efforts on pushing out a Tablet PC (more probably powered by Android) that will run on your network HSPA +.  Below is your official statement:

T-Mobile works in conjunction with the majority of our OEM partners to provide products of 4 g integrating HSPA + in routes in 2011 as the dominant global standard. Consumers will continue to see HSPA + fuel future innovation in a variety of consumer electronics and Mobile smartphones for emerging devices tablets. T-Mobile will continue to be at the forefront of wireless innovation, providing a product line of 4 g aggressive in 2011, including 4 g tablets.

Whom this pill will be done by and what will their specifications are guess who but whereas Android ' Honeycomb ' 3. 0 is expected to hit shelves sometime next year we'll assume something along the lines of what would be.

Bah! Humbug! Google nexus S disappointed in December

Next week is Google nexus S available at best buy for $529.99 with no contract or $199 with a 2 year contract on T-Mobile stores. The only new features we on this device find you under the gingerbread (Android 2.3) are software and NFC technology. Get the small gingerbread update other devices and there are very few uses of NFC currently so why would the nexus-S want to buy?

I bought the Google nexus one back in January at CES and at the time there were also a few new features on devices like the Motorola droid, including the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and Android 2.1 OS. I was not to buy it before the start and then I anyway, because it really was the best Android device on T-Mobile. The nexus-S again launch with support for T-Mobile 3 G and I to MoTR Podcast # 225 said that I have a will not always be.

A big difference between now there and released the nexus one, primarily in the number and the specifications of the existing Android devices. There are several devices available now that have much more convincing specifications and functions as the nexus-S and really just an another Android device in a crowded market transforms it. Even if we consider only T-Mobile, we see that the MyTouch 4 g and T-Mobile G2 better devices as a whole as the nexus-S with support for T-Mobile HSPA + network, support for MicroSD cards and more. You will find both the Android 2.3 update likely NFC will be the only real particularity of the nexus S, while it is still your faster HSPA + network is supported.

I expected the Google nexus S, support for HSPA +, camera in the order of 8 megapixels with HD video recording, 32 GB on-board memory and MicroSD memory slot, next generation mobile processor and Bluetooth 3.0 to have. Currently my Nokia N8 has the best specifications on paper any cell phone radio, Bluetooth 3.0, FM radio, FM transmitter, 12 megapixel camera with HD video recording, USB on-the-go, HDMI output, and much more currently on the market with Penta-band 3 g. Information as is, what I a of a flagship Android device new Android OS kicking off expected.

The nexus-S looks to be a fine Android device and if you want on T-Mobile and a pure Google device then you should check it. The limited memory with a MicroSD card, mid level camera and lack of HSPA + kill it as a choice I would consider. With CES 2011 devices right around the corner and probably news by WebOS, 2.3 gadgets and more I don't know new Android really why would you buy the nexus S. You can link to multiple reviews the nexus to the Android and me website S see what people have tested the nexus-S say in check.

You have probably figured out, I'm a big fan of eBook and my HTC EVO 4 G serves regularly as my eBook reader of choice, since it always with me. I read eBooks with nook, Kindle and Kobo applications currently and am glad to hear the news that Google has their own eBook client Google books called. It is an application available now for Android and iOS devices and other devices can access the e-books through your Web browser. In addition to all the public domain free eBooks has partnered you paid Google with bookseller to bring eBooks.

Google is that you have more than three million titles for you to choose from, including hundreds of thousands for sale. I installed on my EVO 4 G Android app and was pleased to see, a pop up asking if I, wanted to synchronize to the application via the Internet. Sync feature turned on you will synchronize position and content in the library able your reading.

There are various settings in the Android app, including text size, font, line spacing, justification and brightness (including a day/night toggle) settings. You can choose reading between flowing text or original page mode, and most custom settings are only available in flowing text mode.

The support pages discuss how access and read PDF and EPUB format books Google Books, including the files and the nook Sony Reader and other devices to transmit. User interface of the Android market, finally getting Updated

Android Google can quickly be becoming one of the most used mobile operating systems in the world, but compared to a mobile platform like iOS, isn't exactly the most beautiful. Fortunately, Google is doing everything possible to change this, improving the UI platform with each version reoccurring. However, a central component of the platform that is long overdue for an update is the Android Market.

Luckily, it was announced that Google actually will be Update UI Android market giving it a new look and elegant. This includes new things as promoted applications being displayed as CoverFlow-esque along with content ratings getting displayed. This is not all that they are changing, they also are diminishing the time available for a reimbursement of up to 24 hours for only 15 minutes beside the new dedicated categories for things like Live Wallpapers and widgets.

This is not all that is coming, but is coming and it is coming soon. We'll keep you posted and let you know as soon as we get wind that these updates are being pushed out.

Windows Mobile 7 a month later; HD7, AP7 OS and top 10 apps

It was just over a month since I started using best a T-Mobile HTC HD7 (first week with an eval unit and then my own) and I thought it would be helpful to further thoughts on the device to publish Windows Mobile 7 and my top 10 apps. Microsoft was very focused on developers and launched in the United States on 8 November with more than 1,000 apps on the market square. We see today, more than 2,815 store apps on the market square, which is something that never reaches the Windows Marketplace for Mobile (seems, to approximately 1,400 apps).

T-Mobile HTC HD7 appears very similar to the hardware of the HTC HD2 and from conversations with local T-Mobile store representatives that this might cause people to procrastinate with a HD7 purchase. The HTC HD2 was a great piece of hardware problems with WM 6.5 that overcame hardware but after a few weeks and turned into a device that people often avoid the HD2.

The HD7 is a decent quality device but is not as good as it could be. My back is a bit offset side stand pieces, the volume rocker button fits rattling loose in the opening and a bit, it seems up to two stereo speakers on the front and below the display, but this is only a visual effect only a mono speaker on the device, there are only 16 GB available with no memory expansion capability, the camera is the pink hue problem and battery life is pretty bad.

The display looks good, although it older TFT LCD technology (in sunlight visible to) the HD7 feels great in the hand with a slim form factor and the internals and the operating system allowing be extremely snappy. It seems that HTC took an existing device and it just a bit, tweaked to phone Windows 7 instead of really focusing on creating an outstanding original Windows phone 7 device for T-Mobile runs. I was able to pick me up for $200 and for that price I am happy with the HD7.

This latest Microsoft operating system may not everything you need to leave, or want to iOS or persuade Android, but it's pretty amazing and a big surprise coming from Microsoft. I showed everyone to have it he impressed the menus, animations and touch sensitivity of the display of the volatility and responsiveness. I have tested versions of Windows Mobile 7 for months now and it has very stable and reliable. The only issue I have seen with the stability of the operating system is freezing the marketplace where you the device and then back again to clear on the access and use the marketplace.

Delights of the AP7: I love the speed of the operating system, capability, pin items on the home screen, you can start the camera button when the device is locked and the Zune integration. Mail is 7 awesome on Windows phone, I find the e-Mail experience on Windows Mobile 7 IMHO better than what I, experienced on other mobile platforms have to be. Web browser is quite good and met my needs.

Frustrations with AP7: I find the lack of true multitasking, a bit of a pain to be especially with Twitter, where the app when upgraded, they come back, after leave to do something else. I'd rather see better Twitter integration, much like Facebook, or support for multi-tasking applications. I find the lack of copy and paste, a weakness, we already know will be addressed in a future update. Other areas I would like to see addressed are custom ring tones, you can download podcasts without establishing a connection to a PC or Mac and turn - by - turn directions in Bing maps.

I doubt, are these features come 7 Windows phone, but I would like to see, a way to organize the list of apps on the start screen in a way, I want you display support for folders and subfolders.

It seems that many people will find Windows Mobile 7 acceptable any more of their devices at this time can wish for your needs during power users. I find myself my SIM between my HD7 and Nokia N8 bouncing and with a solid update from Microsoft, which I am sure I would be happy with Windows Mobile 7 as a daily driver.

What are you happy with and frustrated with Windows Mobile 7?

I have tracking was number and type of apps for Windows Mobile 7 devices available and for most it this month more apps in the UK and other countries, where Windows Mobile 7 first started. We see now, there are more apps in the United States is currently the Bing Visual Search Site pointing 2,815 apps in the United States.

Looking through my HTC HD7 I see that I now have 45 apps and keep trying the search for new apps, have installed every few days. Some of the apps are from HTC, many are games (12), and I paid more for (6). While there are some very high-quality games and apps, I've seen a whole lot more 3rd party apps from independent developers rather than higher end apps from major software publishers. I'm actually quite happy with the current selection and there are only a few apps I am really looking forward to and my HD7 is missing. Microsoft and developers have raised my needs and wishes with the current crop of apps most of all.

Here are my current top 10 Windows phone 7 applications, in no particular order:

Twitter: Twitter client Flowerz: addictive puzzle game to play on line Wonder Reade r: best Google Reader RSS app I found WeatherBug: good weather app with live tile poynt: good app for finding places, movie times and lowest gas prices Star Wars: battle for Hoth: good Tower Defense game for the Star Wars fan like me Slacker/Last.fm: decent alternative to integrated Zune Player need for speed undercover-streaming: enjoyable racing game Endomondo: used my jogging GoVoice track: Google voice app that I use primarily for my voice mail

And here are the apps I look for every few days and I hope to see soon on Windows Mobile 7:

What are your favorite apps and what apps are you look forward to AP7?

This quota may be increased by changing the MaxStringContentLength property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader. Line 1, position 8992.

It was just about a year ago that T-Mobile and RIM launched the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone and I wrote at the time that I thought it was one of the best front facing QWERTY devices available. I had the chance to check out the BlackBerry Torch in August and was not that pleased with the dual touch screen and QWERTY keyboard experience and still thought that the Bold 9700 was the best BlackBerry device available. We now see T-Mobile and RIM following up this successful device with the BlackBerry Bold 9780. The 9780 comes with a few key improvements and also launches at a very affordable $129.99 after $50 mail-in rebate. You can check out my image gallery of the Bold 9780, video walk through below, and some thoughts on using it for the past week. The Bold 9780 is my new favorite BlackBerry device and if you are a BlackBerry fan I am sure you will enjoy this new device.

I see on the T-Mobile site that the Bold 9700 is no longer offered as the Bold 9780 takes its place and even comes in at a lower price. T-Mobile also offers the Curve 3G and Curve 8520 devices for much lower costs, but as a high end fan myself the Bold 9780 is worth the extra money and you can immediately feel it if you hold all three in your hand.

The Bold 9780 comes in a fairly typical T-Mobile branded box with green highlights. Inside the box you will find the Bold 9780, battery, holster with belt clip, charger, stereo headset, USB cable, 2GB microSD card inserted, and some user guides and manuals.

When I first pulled the Bold 9780 from the box I thought it felt a lot lighter than the Bold 9700, but that was because it has been so long since I have used the Bold 9700 since I was corrected and learned that the Bold 9700 and Bold 9780 have the same dimensions and exterior design. I have been playing with some hefty smartphones and thus I was a bit caught off guard with the light weight of the 9780. The back cover is slightly rubberized and it feels good in your hand. The keyboard is the exact same and that is a good thing.

Let’s start off by taking a look at the specifications for the BB Bold 9780:

Quad-band GSM/EDGE:1900/1800/900/850 MHzTri-band UMTS: 2100/1700/900 MHzBlackBerry OS 6.0624 MHz processor512MB ROMmicroSD card slot with SDHC support (2GB card included)QWERTY keyboard and trackballIntegrated GPS/A-GPS receiver802.11 b/g/n WiFi with support for T-Mobile WiFi Calling serviceBluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support2.44 inch 480×360 pixels 65k colors display5.0 megapixel camera with flash light and auto focus3.5 mm headset jack1500 mAh batteryDimensions of 4.29 x 2.36 x 0.56 inches and 4.3 ounces

The differences between the original Bold 9700 and Bold 9780 are as follows:

Bold 9780 has double the onboard memory (512MB vs 256MB)Bold 9780 has increased camera resolution (5 megapixel vs 3.2 megapixel)The newer chipset gives it the 802.11n supportBold 9780 is preloaded with BB 6 OS

So as you can see there are just acouple of improvements in the Bold 9780, but I honestly think this is all that RIM had to do to improve this device and too often manufacturers go crazy with updates that make a 2nd generation device worse.

The front of the BlackBerry Bold 9780 is dominated by the QWERTY keyboard and high resolution display. You will also find an optical trackpad and four hardware buttons.

The QWERTY keyboard is the same as the BB Bold 9700 and is quite good. However, I still don’t like that you have to press the alternate button to enter a @, period, comma, and question mark. The E73 Mode that I have is setup better for these common symbols and I wish RIM would setup their keyboards a bit better.

You will find the 3.5mm headset jack along the upper part of the left side with the microUSB port and left convenience key (setup by default for voice dialing) farther down. The right side is where you will find the volume buttons and right convenience key. These three buttons are all matte black raised bumps that work well.

There is nothing on the bottom and along the top we have the lock and mute functions integrated into the black plastic that rolls up from the front to the top.

The 5 megapixel camera and flash light are along the top of the back below the glossy black frame piece outlining the device. The battery cover is faux leather with the BlackBerry symbol in silver on the upper center part.

The Bold 9780 feels great in your hand and is a solid and comfortable device. The 4.3 ounce weight feels quite light compared to the 5+ ounce devices I have been using lately and it fits well even in a shirt pocket.

The Bold 9780 is an extremely fast and responsive device and I love the new setup and settings area of the BB 6 OS. The settings were the one area of the BB OS that bothered the heck out of me and now you have a visual way of managing your settings that makes MUCH more sense.

I wasn’t sure how the BB 6 OS would be on a non-touch device, but I honestly think the Bold 9780 is a better device than the BB Torch with the touch screen and slide-up display. Maybe RIM should think about adding touch to this form factor device rather than one that takes away a bit from the QWERTY experience.

The new “ribbon” area/tray is easy to navigate through with the optical trackpad. The web browser is one application that was greatly improved with BB 6 and I enjoyed using it on the Bold 9780. The display feels a bit cramped and fonts can be quite tiny at times, but that is the convenience of the smaller form factor device and large QWERTY keyboard.

I highly recommend you check out what the experts at CrackBerry.com have to say about the details of RIM BB 6 since I cannot really do it justice with my limited use and background knowledge of the platform.

The Bold 9780 is an excellent BlackBerry device and if you are a T-Mobile customer then it really is quite an easy choice to select this device. The BB 6 OS fixed several issues I had with BlackBerry devices, primarily with the web browser and settings area. Battery life is typical BB awesome and I have had it going for a couple of days with heavy usage.

I do like that T-Mobile doesn’t cripple devices with a bunch of junk like AT&T does and the only T-Mobile things I could find were Visual Voicemail and T-Mobile My Account utility. Most of the apps I want to use on a mobile phone are found in the BlackBerry App World store too.

The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is available at T-Mobile for $129.99 with a 2-year contract and compatible Even More plan. This is $70 less than the Bold 9700 was at launch and it seems to me this is the perfect pricing level for this type of device. You can also sign up for a new Even More Plus plan (no contract) and pay $449.99. If I didn’t rely on a solid Exchange connection (without a BES) then I would like to have a Bold 9780 myself since it just seems to go and go with a solid OS and smartphone experience.

Virgin Mobile, SaskTel Push Out Galaxy S Android ' Froyo ' 2. 2 update

A larger consumers have complaints with the Android platform is the fact that it is so hard to keep up to date. Of course, this is not the fault of the consumer, but rather real hardware manufacturers which delayed continuously the latest builds of Android. A case of this is the infamous S of galaxies that, here in the United States, has yet to receive the latest update, Android ' Froyo ' 2. 2.

This is quickly becoming a problem especially since bread ' Android ' 2. 3 is already making its market. Fortunately, those of you with an s Galaxy of Virgin Mobile or SaskTel will be happy to know that they are now pushing out the update. News comes to us Canadian Twitter account from Samsung that says Virgin Mobile and SaskTel will join Bell as official update Froyo providers.

This is great news for our northern neighbors but what about us here in the United States? It's pretty ridiculous that a device so popular as the Galaxy S has still receive the update. What gives?

Nokia E73 review mode

Published on 09 November 2010. tmobile mode pair Nokia E73 Mode review E73 Nokia mode

Background:

A subsidiary of Nokia asked us to do a review on the new Nokia, which runs on the network T-Mobile, a few weeks ago E73 mode.  Having reviewed the Nokia E71x in a previous post: I found the hardware to be solid while the able (if shortly and date) Symbian OS was positively paralyzed by AT & T pejorative.

Needless to say - I excited to get my hands on E73 mode.

Unboxed:
Nokia E73 mode was well packaged and contained the standard set of chargers, cellophane and accessories.

The phone maintains its elegant form (SLIM) and from the get-go factor: only feels solidly built.

The body of the phone is a light metal alloy that is texture for additional grip.  As well as the E71x - is a magnet for fingerprints, but obviously still less than many touch screen phones.
Impressions:
E73 mode has a fantastic keyboard.  The keys are a tiny bit on the small side in comparison with the latest BlackBerry curves but placement and texture of the keys outweighs the size.  The keys you release a strong feeling and excellent feedback and communication.  Pad D has been replaced by a D-pad sensor / hybrid optical / joystick that makes navigation a breeze.

The camera is a matter of 5 megapixels with flash and autofocus performs adequately for a smartphone business and the battery life is amazing - phone lasted a total of 4 days of use moderate on T-Mobile 3 G network and while using the application maps GPS free - a departure from the reception of the E71x.

Software:
In terms of software - Symbian OS is a number of things (not all of them good), but it is stable and blissfully cleared.

Of particular note - the role of "Switch" that allows you to have two different interfaces (homescreen, tones, etc.) that can be changed (GET IT) without effort.  In practice, this makes switching between a homescreen "work" with the email client capable of Nokia and the characteristics of a display of "play" that contains applications of social media, enterprise access to texts, etc.

This feature is especially useful when you leave the Office and heading for a weekend in Boston.  T-Mobile coverage was surprisingly good in the financial district and said coverage-along with an operating system very un-tethered-foresee a device capable of meetings or moshpits users.

Being Symbian said still shows its age and lack of sophistication (compared to mobile operating system many competitors).  While Symbian does its job very well (especially with regard to enterprise applications, email) struggle with graphics and interactivity, preferring to stay in the era of 2003-2006 together with the 8300 BlackBerry smartphones. This is not necessarily something "bad" - especially if you don't have time to fool with overly inflated multimedia-pesados devices and touch screens, but sacrificed breadth and depth of applications compared to an Android or iOS device.

In summary: Nokia E73 mode is a good phone and would have considered a surprising phone in 2005.  While it is an artist capable performer (blows his primo-la AT & T had crippled Nokia E71x-out of the water on all fronts) does not distinguish between the great variety of iOS Android market devices now.

Downloads available in the format of PC-to-device BlackBerry App world

Suppose we saw this was coming, but BlackBerry App world is now available in a version web-to-phone.

BlackBerry App world 2. 0 involves a process analogous to register an ID BlackBerry. You have to install a browser plug-in for PC-to-phone. not only you can download applications for your BlackBerry connected, but the App World 2 catalog.0 allows users to access reviews, recommendations and management MyWorld page related to the account.

I think this is the start of something new for BlackBerry. I wonder what App World 3.0 will bring us?

Bed Bug Alert App tells you where they bite

There has been much in the news about Bedbug infestation and epidemics, and now there is an application to track where you are.

It was developed by someone in New York, a city that has seen many outbreaks of Bedbug. As you can see, the app gives a complete view of map with pins. These locations are determined by local health departments, the media and individual reports of Bedbug infestation. the next version of this software is color coordinated time of sightings so that users know when they are released.

You should be able to get a current version of the game for about $ 1.99 on the app store.

Central Park, the app.

I've never been to New York, but I heard that the Central Park is quite large.

It wouldn't help having an application that would be a guide for it? Especially one that has a GPS, map, as well as some cool History tab.I wonder if there is any guide what movies were filmed in Central Park. it seems that every movie has some kind of scene there.

Anyway, you should be able to get it for around $ 2.

Android bread to be the next major release of the Google Mobile platform

Google Android is one of the most popular mobile operating systems in the world, with its install base growing every day. While the platform is quite capable in its current iteration, there is much room for improvement. Currently, Android's latest big spread version is version 2. 2, also known as Froyo. However, Google is looking for a until Android Froyo with bread.

Unfortunately, at this moment not known much of Android ' bread ' as he only became official today and by employee referring that Google has ordered a lawn ornament of bread for their headquarters in mountain view, California.

While there isn't much became official, there are some rumors floating around about Google plans to add to the bread. won't go much of them as I don't want to have someone very excited just yet, but rumors suggest that the new platform will include support for Google recently released the Google TV platform, built-in support for video calls (as opposed to a third party application) and more hardware acceleration. Heck, do not even know for sure if he'll be version 2.3 or 3.0.

Like I said, these are just rumors at this point so take it with a grain of salt, but definitely be prepared for bread. Unfortunately, at a rate we will be very long before that hardware manufacturers really get around to throw bread for popular smart phones were already on the market.

Don't forget to check out again as a gift that unfolds.

product overlay GalaxySEpic A Samsung Epic 4G Review: One Month After

The Epic 4G is the third (forth if you count the original GSM counterpart) installment of the Samsung Galaxy S series of devices here in the US. Samsung’s Galaxy S series of devices are a really big deal for the company. They represent the best engineering the company can muster both in terms of hardware and software for a smartphone device. T-Mobile and AT&T were the first two carriers to announce their versions of the device into the States, with Sprint and Verizon following not too far after. Samsung is trying to gain global market share with their (Android) devices and by releasing this plethora of galaxy devices to almost all major markets around the world, this shouldn’t be too hard for them to do. Does this certain galaxy device live up to its name? Find out after the jump.

Hardware/Design

Right out of the box, the phone feels extremely light and this is with the battery not inserted. With the battery inserted, you notice a tad bit of a difference. Besides that this phone is just beautiful in every way. The first thing you notice is that beautiful 4” screen and everything else follows. From the sleek and rounded edges, all the way to the matte black battery cover with little glitter on it. The phone doesn’t scream business, but it screams another profile, media. This phone, which most of you already know from the entire lineup, is just the same as the other Galaxy series devices hence the QWERTY keyboard that Sprint decided to add. Full specs and highlights are as follows:

3G/4G capabilitySamsung 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application Processor4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive display with pinch-to-zoomGoogle full HTML browser – bandwidth and quality that rival that of netbooksAndroid 2.1, with access to more than 50,000 apps on Android MarketSimultaneous voice and data capability in 4G and Wi-Fi coverage areas, enabling Web surfing and more while talkingGoogle mobile services, including Google Search, Google Maps, Google Talk, Gmail, YouTube , and Google Calendar syncVisual VoicemailMessaging – personal and business email and text messaging, as well as IM through a downloadable Android Market app3G/4G Mobile Hotspot capability – connects up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices4G data speeds (WiMAX) – peak download speeds of more than 10 Mbps; peak upload speeds of 1 Mbps; average download speeds of 3-6 Mbps3G data speeds (EVDO Rev A.) – peak download speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps; peak upload speeds of 1.8 Mbps; average download speeds of 600 kbps-1.4 MbpsDual camera: 5 MP camera/camcorder with autofocus, power LED flash and 4x digital zoom for photos and HD video (720p) recording for capture and playback on an HD television, as well as a front facing VGA camera for video chat and moreQik video application for video chat service and live video sharingHigh-quality video streaming and downloads at 3G and 4G data speedsSamsung’s exclusive AllShare service to wirelessly share stored music, pictures and HD video to other DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified home electronics, including HDTVs, monitors, digital cameras, printers and moreSamsung Social Hub integrates all of the user’s social networking services, messages, personal and business email, calendars and contacts, and can display calendar information from portal calendars, such as Google Calendar, and social networking services together in one view with two-way synchronizationFuture access to the Samsung Media Hub, a full library of video and literary content powered by some of the biggest names in entertainmentMedia player with 3.5mm stereo headset jackSprint applications, including Sprint Football Live, Sprint Navigation, Sprint TV, and NASCAR Sprint Cup MobileBluetooth 2.1 with A2DP Stereo and EDRBuilt-in WiFi: 802.11 b/g/nDigital compass, six-axis motion sensor, proximity sensor, light sensor, GPSExpandable memory: 16 GB microSD card included; supports up to 32 GB

From the specs alone you could tell this phone is just a monster in its own way. The Epic 4G is one of the better built Galaxy devices in the lineup. Although it is mostly made up from recycled plastics, it feels extremely solid in your hands. The weight from the keyboard makes all the difference. On the outside of the phone you have the phone’s screen and the four usual Android buttons right under it. Each button on the front of the phone are capacitive just like the screen. It works the same just as the ones on the Nexus One, Motorola DROID, and EVO 4G. Tapping the buttons were very responsive and never gave me a hick-up or an opportunity to press it another time. On the right side of the device you have the power button on the top right and the camera shutter button on the bottom. The Epic 4G is the only one out of the whole Galaxy series with an actual physical camera shutter button, so for those who don’t like tapping their screen to snap a photo or two should feel right at home pressing this one. On the left you have the up/down volume keys by itself. The top of the device you have both the 3.5mm headset jack and microUSB port that is sealed behind a “door” to prevent from dust and debris from going inside corroding the port. Now turn the phone about 90 degrees counter-clockwise and you have that marvelous5-row QWERTY keyboard (more on the keyboard later). Now saving the best for last, the screen on the Epic 4G is describable in one word, BREATHTAKING! The Super AMOLED screen provides deep, deep blacks and extremely bright whites. It puts up a fierce competition to the Retina Display in the iPhone 4's screen and it really is a tough match for the both of them to come out on top of. Watching movies or video clips are just amazing on this screen. This screen blows my Acer 24 inch full HD monitor to shame when it comes to HD output and color.  The screen is just that pretty.

landscapeslider Samsung Epic 4G Review: One Month After

Keyboard(s)

There are two options here for typing on the keyboard; on-screen and physical. The 4G’s keyboard is one of the best keyboards I’ve ever used in my phone lifetime. Its 5-row design is one of the best in the game. The only keyboard that’ll come close to this one is the one on the Touch Pro 2. The keys are evenly spaced and the best thing about the keyboard are the number keys on the top. There is no dual pressing of the function keys and a letter to type out a number. Typing on this will take a little getting used to depending on how much you will use the keyboard as for I felt a little uncomfortable using this the first couple of days. I’m so used to typing on an on-screen QWERTY that I forgot what how to place my hands when typing on a device like this. This keyboard is definitely comfortable though and a pleasure using at the same time. Physical keyboard fans should have no problems adjusting to this keyboard at all. For those of you want to type via the on-screen keyboard, there’s two options: Swype and the stock Android keyboard. Swype is the new in thing for “typing” faster on your screen. The stock Android keyboard did just as well than any other version of this keyboard thanks to the multitouch input and there was no need to actually download an extra keyboard from the Market. So, two options, pick one, your choice, happy typing!

superAMOLED Samsung Epic 4G Review: One Month After

Screen

Boy oh boy is this a beauty! Samsung really outdid themselves on this one. The Epic 4G is equipped with a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen that makes viewing videos an absolute pleasure. The reason behind the Super AMOLED technology is to have a device whose screen is bright and vivid as this one viewable in direct sunlight. Now although Samsung claims this in their official statement, this is almost entirely not true. With the screen settings put all the way to 100%, there was visibility, but not as they claim. It still doesn’t beat the legibility of the prior iPhones which used IPS based capacitive touch screens for better legibility in direct sunlight. With the device indoors, I had to turn the screen’s brightness down to 0%, it was just too bright. Watching videos on this screen is just a pure joy. The whites were very, very white with no discoloration to them. The blacks were extremely nice and deep. Come on, it’s Samsung we’re talking about here. They’re giving us quality HD viewing on a mobile device just as they would on a 50 inch television. The picture is THAT good.

Camera

The camera on the Epic is the standard for smartphones nowadays, 5MP with autofocus. The Epic was the only Galaxy device with a LED flash but the Verizon Fascinate became the second shortly after. I don’t understand why the CDMA versions were given the added flash and their GSM cousins were left out of the frame, but it only helps out a tad bit more. For those who have the Captivate and Vibrant, feel free to use the night time mode and compare the photos if you can to see which has the better quality. Image quality of the photos were excellent and the colors weren’t over-saturated at all. Although the sensor is only 5MP, the camera performed better than the 8MP of the Droid X. Sometimes it’s not always about the megapixels, but the actual lens you put into the device and the Galaxy series is a solid example of this hypothesis (iPhone 4 too).

samsung epic e1 Samsung Epic 4G Review: One Month After

Performance

The Epic 4G performed superior the entire time I was testing the device. Cellular reception proved to be between exceptional and great the entire time with bars never dropping below 3. The average signal displayed as -82db and for those who aren’t aware of that meaning here’s a quick lesson: the lower the number the better. -82 might look high, but the numbers go to as high as -115db and that’s bad. There was no 4G coverage in my location so I didn’t get to test out its speeds. The 1GHz Hummingbird processor did exactly what it was supposed to do, fly. I didn’t encounter any hiccups with the Epic at all and that was more than good enough for me. The average time the phone buckled down for a recharge would be at around 11 PM, so the power user need no fear about battery life about this phone. Switching between apps was a cinch and that’s due to the 512MB of RAM that the Epic is equipped with. I never received a dropped call and even where there was extremely fringe service, it managed to pull reception and hold on to calls when it needed to.

samsung epic e4 Samsung Epic 4G Review: One Month After

Conclusion

With Sprint’s 4G network opening to more markets and more customers are purchasing the two 4G devices available right now, I don’t see why people wouldn’t purchase this device. This is an all-around champion here. Screen, physical keyboard and features all packed into this one phone. Android is stepping their game up dramatically and people are noticing. Unfortunately, some people may think this phone is too bulky for them due to the fact almost every device is Nicole Richie thin and pocketable, but don’t let the size be the final factor in purchasing a phone. Me personally, I used to love physical keyboards and now that I’ve been spoiled to the world of the iPhone, I don’t need one. This device though is extremely comfortable typing on though, both on and off screen. If I was still a Windows Phone type guy who was still in love with my HTC Titan (MDA 2, Cingular 8525, Mogul, VX6800) and it’s keyboard, this phone would be an absolute no brainer. The keyboard is really that good. Besides that, don’t let my judgment of keyboards prevent you from purchasing this device, it’s in my top five phones ever used, 100% honest. With all the data being used from cell phones now and social networking being a complete gold mine, why not have a phone that’ll do everything you wish you could do with your current handset? I know I would.

S/N: I didn’t get to use the video calling feature because most people I know don’t have the EVO 4G or Epic, but the iPhone 4. Once the device was sent back, the app Tango came out for video chat via wi-fi or 3G to an Android device or iP4. If you do have any one of these devices try a video call with that application and let us know how it went, your thoughts about it and if you think video calling is here to stay.
